TO COMBAT FEAR
• It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
• Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
• The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)
• But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12:7)

WHEN FACING DISASTER
• [The LORD] said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:14)
• The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. (Deuteronomy 33:27, KJV)
• As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time on and forevermore. (Psalm 125:2)
• For you shall not go out in haste, and you shall not go in flight; for the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard. (Isaiah 52:12)

FOR GUIDANCE AND DIRECTION IN A CRISIS
• You show me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
• I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. (Psalm 32:8)

A Graduate Fellow and Research Assistant for the State of New Jersey Amistad Commission, Rev. Jones is a PhD Candidate in Speech Communications at The University of Memphis whose focus includes Rhetoric in Black Preaching during the Reconstruction Era and Tonality in Black Preaching as Communal Call. Jones earned his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rutgers University-New Brunswick as a Merit Scholar.
