So information products are really where I personally believe most of the money is, especially for smaller entrepreneurs online. You start out with a CD or DVD series that may run all the way up to maybe $1,000 if you’ve really done a nice job with the DVD series and it really imparts that.
Now if we move kind of up as a funnel, in order to get past $1,000 you have to add some more personal involvement and interaction. What we typically see for products between $1,000 on up to let’s say $5,000, so we’ll have some overlapping ranges here I think, is you’re typically going to see a CD or DVD series, but it comes with some help.
It may come with a couple hours of one-on-one consulting or something, or it may come with a few classes where somebody can get online or get on the phone with you and ask you some questions about things that are on the DVD. No matter how good a job you do with your audio and CD, or with your DVD series, you are going to have people who ask questions.
We could talk about the idea that you really could create a DVD series that answers every single question, but it might be 50 DVDs long and then you’re answering so many questions that, although you’ll hit on somebody’s question, you’ve got so much stuff in there that’s not pertinent to every user that they don’t get as much value from it as having something that’s more compressed – 10-12 CDs or DVDs.
What happens is by adding in some group time or adding in some one-on-one time or adding in some email coaching, adding in just another level of personal involvement, that helps people go from watching it and literally doing it, perhaps even adding some tutorials in that take people step-by-step.
For example if you were teaching somebody how to build a $250,000 per year eBay business, then you might be able to create a CD series or a DVD series that might sell for $500 to $1,000.
But if you were to add in say a series of 10 step-by-step tutorials – and these don’t have to be long, they just have to work – maybe it’s a PDF and it has links in it to what the actual next step is. Maybe there’s some Camtasia shots that show people a specific page or how to upload something specifically. Then maybe you throw in a couple hours of one-on-one time where they can really ask questions.
Now you can come up with something that has a value between $1,000 and $5,000, because now they’re not just watching it but you’re kind of pushing them into the next level.
