Ad Networks Reject the Adult Industry at their Peril

According to Technorati over half of bloggers have now woken up to the fact that displaying ads on their site is not the work of the devil, and can in fact pay their hosting charges and even earn a profit. It’s a simple process to incorporate ads into your web pages and you can earn from every purchase from someone who clicked on your ads, or better still, the clicks themselves. However, adult webmasters have been denied this second form, or pay per click revenue, until very recently as so few ad networks work with adult businesses.

This empty-headed decision to shut out the adult industry makes a mockery of the ascension of "adult" in the media you and I consume on a daily basis. More and more TV shows are singling-out adult businesses as their muse. The ever-amusing "The Girls Next Door" is a daily pictorial of the life and times of Hugh Hefner and his bevy of pneumatic lovelies. Similarly, "Family Business" is a reality show that centres on Adam Glasser, the entrepreneur behind a goliath company in the adult industry. For those who prefer their entertainment 40 foot high, the cinema screen has recently been lit up by Kevin Smiths current effort, "Zack and Miri…" which rounds on a male-female friendship as they decide to shoot an adult film for extra cash; which grossed a whopping $40m globally. Adult is now a de-rigour subject for the mainstream journalist but their counterparts in the heavily-regulated ad industry have been left scrambling to catch up.

Some timid ad execs have nightmares about their top mainstream accounts walking out the front door if they start working with an adult business. Although in some extreme case this might be true, very few mainstream businesses care about the makeup of their ad networks client base as long as their competitors don’t get wind of their next bit of activity. Some sources have placed adult industry annual revenue at $13bn which means it is just too big for Managing Directors to ignore if they want to keep their job in a recession.

All that is needed is some restraint. Personally check and categorise each site that wants to join your network and you will be well on the way to guaranteeing that you don't show inappropriate ads, ever. If you are not prepared to invest in these checks then you may as well throw in the towel for your mainstream business too as you cannot offer a 100% quality guarantee to your existing clients either. As long as you are prepared to put a little work into vetting your network you too can participate in the bonanza in revenues that the Adult industry can bring.
